Allegedly: Jussie Smollett written off 'Empire'
Last week, we reported that Taraji P Henson and Terrence Howard wrote a letter in support of Jussie Smollett, imploring those that be over at FOX not to fired him after Cook County, IL States Attorneys office dropped all 16 charged against him for staging a hate crime in Chicago.
BTW: The Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx has been subpoenaed over the case and will have to appear in court, after a retired appellate judge filed a petition last week for a special prosecutor to probe the Smollett case, in which a 16-count indictment against the “Empire” actor was dropped last month.
Anyway, back to Jussie..
News is trickling in that the letter to FOX execs may have gone in the recycle bin (the trash can). Forewarning, The SJS Show is neither confirming or denying this information, but the most recent Star Magazine "print version" says:
Though no official announcement has been made regarding whether Jussie, 36, will still be part of the cast, should Fox renew the series for a sixth season, Star has learned that he’ll be written off - much to his surprise.
“Jussie thought he’d get to ride it out,” says an insider, adding that the actor has allegedly had private meetings with creator Lee Daniels and begged not to be killed off the show. “He thinks he’s way too important. Jussie always felt the show would send an important message to the world if his character, the gay son, continued the family’s legacy. Being written off wasn’t anything he ever imagined.”
